The Acre Traditional Wares Project

The Acre Traditional Wares Project is just one example of a community program. The object of this project is to safeguard the rich, intangible culture of the city by reviving it.

The initial stage of the project was identifying traditional products of the city. Thereafter a group of 20 unemployed local women was chosen. These women participate in training programs in traditional crafts and spices. Training includes lessons in teaching skills, sessions on entrepreneurship and marketing. Additional emphasis is put on learning the history of the city. Graduates of the program are encouraged to teach, demonstrate, present and sell the products to tourists.

The project is a new exciting way of increasing the interaction between the local inhabitants and the tourists visiting the city.
