The construction of the power-plant off Hadera has caused sand shortage and erosion to the beaches to the north and has narrowed the beach south of Sdot-Yam Kibbutz. The situation necessitated immediate buttressing measures to protect the maritime center and antiquities south of the Crusader city. In addition, walls and entire segments of the city are undergoing rapid deterioration and are collapsing into the sea.
