Bathhouses in Byzantine Jerusalem

    The present paper attempts to show that during the Byzantine period at least six public Bathhouses were built in the several locations in the city.

    All of them are situated near to the main street and close to one of the public aqueducts, which supplied water to the city.

    Summary

    This peper presents again the Bathhouse that was uncovered in B’ Mazar excavations at the foot of the south- western corner of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem

    in October 2000 the authors conducted an salvage excavation in the caldarium and other elements from the Bath- House. According to the mentioned finding it is clear that this Bathhouse was in used during the late Byzantine period with no Considerable archaeological evidence indicates that this Bathhouse was built by the Romans. In the Umayyad period, the building was out of use and the structure of the “Umayyad palace” No. IV was built directly above the Byzantine debris.
