A Roman-period lintel (c. 35 x 50), uncovered at Kafr Yassif in the Galilee, was represented in 1998 (Israel's 50th Independance Day Celebrations) by the state of Israel to the UN. The lintel, made of limestone, is adorned with a menorah, a shofar and a lulav. It was found embedded in a wall of a house in the village, above its entrance. This stone probably belonged to an ancient synagogue, which existed in Kafr Yassif in the eighteenth century CE. An Englishman, who resided in the village in the nineteenth century, saved the stone by inserting it above the entrance to his house.
