During the 2005 excavation season at Tel Zafit/Gath excavations were conducted in different areas on the tell and nearby. Most of the finds from this season date to the Early Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age, Iron Age I and II and Crusader period. In this lecture I will focus on a number of special finds from last season, among them: this inscription – the earliest Philistine inscription discovered to date, from the beginning of the Iron Age IIA, in Proto-Semitic script. Two Indo-European names (similar to the name Goliath) appear in the inscription. In addition cultic finds dating to the Late Bronze Age will be discussed, as well as other artifacts.
