Research Program
The interdisciplinary research program of the JCHP consists of a variety of research projects.

Archaeological Research Projects
Archaeological research at Jaffa includes the integration of archaeological excavations, marine archaeology, geophysical surveys, geomorphological analysis, and GIS mapping. Ongoing archaeological excavations by the Israel Antiquities Authority and UCLA form the core of this research agenda. However, geomorphological and geophysical studies are also forthcoming.

Historical Research Projects
Despite the importance of archaeological research to historical research concerning Jaffa, historical sources, maps, artwork, and photos provide a rich source of data about Jaffa's history during many periods. These sources also facilitate interpretations of the archaeological, architectural, and occupational history of the site. Thus, historical research of the site in all periods is instrumental to properly understanding the cultural and environmental evolution of Jaffa through the ages.

Environmental Research Projects
Like historical research, study of Jaffa's changing environment provides a better understanding of the factors that governed the site's selection as both a settlement and major port along the coast of the southern Levant. Although ports are selected for their geographical position, and therefore maintain their importance in many periods, environmental conditions change. Therefore, seeking to understand the changes that occurred in the environment of the region is also critical to understanding changes in the size and organization of Jaffa through time.
