Description: Glass weight made of greenish glass. Broken along the lower right
edge. Its weight of 4 grams is compatible with the weight of a gold
dinar coin (the weight recorded between 4.17 to 4.27 grams) This type
was used on a scale to verify the weight of a dinar and
prevent fraud. Thus it could be ensured that the value was genuine
and its edges had not been clipped. The obverse carries an
inscription with the name of the Fatimid khalif Al-Musta'ly 1094-1011
CE.
It reads; Ahmad
al-Imam abu al-Ka[sem]
al-Musta'ly billah
Amir al-Muninin
Translation: Ahmad, the Imam abu-alKa[sem] al-Musta'ly billah,
comander of the faithful. A miniature tendril with two branches,
decorates the lower part of the weight.
